An ode to Extravaganza

Darjeeling, the picturesque hilltown renowned for its devotion to music and marathon, is set to unite these passions in a grand three-day celebration organized by the Darjeeling Police. On December 22 and 23, the first edition of the Darjeeling “Melo-Tea Fest” will take center stage, followed by the 10th edition of the Darjeeling Police Marathon on December 24.

Melo-Tea Fest: Harmony Over High

The Melo-Tea Fest emerges as a testament to Darjeeling’s commitment to revive its musical Mecca. With the theme “Harmony Over High,” the festival will not only showcase the best of Darjeeling’s music and tea culture but also serve as a calendar event aimed at boosting tourism and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.

The fest’s main highlight is an open rock competition, featuring a distinguished panel of judges, including the famous band “Parikrama”. Bands from Darjeeling and beyond are already expressing interest, with inquiries pouring in from neighboring Nepal and Bhutan.

Bands aspiring to participate must submit an original audio recording and a video cover by December 5. The selected bands will be announced by December 7 and will perform on December 22. From the preliminary round, five bands will advance to the December 23 finals, where the top three will receive substantial cash awards. Additional accolades await the best vocalist, guitarist, keyboard player, and drummer.

Darjeeling Police Marathon: Run the Race, Defeat the Chase

Simultaneously, on December 24, the hills will echo with the rhythm of footsteps as the 10th Darjeeling Police Marathon kicks off. With the theme “Run the Race, Defeat the Chase,” this edition emphasizes a collective effort to overcome substance dependency and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The marathon, featuring different categories in the 21 km and 10 km runs, boasts a total cash award of Rs 9.8 lakh. This year witnesses a reduction in the registration amount and an increased cash award for the 21 km run, now at Rs 1.25 lakh. The certified IAFF and AIMS marathon route guarantee international standards and precision.

Both events, aligned with the anti-drug themes, are integral components of the Darjeeling Police’s community outreach program, reflecting the force’s dedication to ensuring safety, promoting cultural richness, and fostering recreational well-being in the region.

Join Darjeeling in this unique blend of music, athleticism, and cultural celebration as it champions the spirit of harmony, athletics, and anti-drug advocacy.
